Cramps After Conception – The Causes!

Most women experience mild cramps after conception. This is considered as one of the signs of pregnancy. It also indicates ectopic pregnancy or a miscarriage. There are many causes for cramping after conception. Mild cramping which is similar to the pain during menstruation is normal, but severe cramps with bleeding can be an indication of a pregnancy complication. Mild cramps within eight to ten days after conception is considered normal and is an early sign of pregnancy. Implantation bleeding and cramping can be followed with light bleeding or spotting. This is known as implantation bleeding. Only 20-30% of the pregnant women experience implantation bleeding and cramping. There are hormonal changes, structural, and functional changes taking place in a woman’s body during pregnancy. Women suffer from many problems like constipation, indigestion, lack of minerals. These are some of the other reason for cramps. So, if you experience mild cramping, it is absolutely normal.   • Miscarriage: Women experiencing severe cramps following conception with severe bleeding is a matter of concern for both the mother and baby. Hormones that are produced during pregnancy like progesterone and oestrogen play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Hormonal imbalance can cause low oestrogen and progesterone levels, which in turn can cause miscarriage and cramping.
  • Ectopic Pregnancy: When the embryo starts growing anywhere other than the uterus, i.e, mostly in the fallopian tubes, then this condition is called ectopic pregnancy. As the growing embryo applies pressure on the fallopian tubes, it leads to pressure on the walls of the tube. This makes her experience cramping and severe pain. This growing pressure can result in the rupture of the blood vessels. So, this is another cause for cramping after conceiving.
  • Other Causes: Along with the above causes, doctors even check whether a woman is experiencing cramps due to an ovarian cyst, pre-eclampsia, urinary tract infections, and placental abruption. These are some of the other causes that can result in cramping.

So, if you are planning to become pregnant, then consult your doctor and follow a healthy lifestyle. Follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, stop smoking, avoid the intake of alcohol, avoid stress, and avoid the consumption of medications and drugs. These can affect the hormonal levels severely. This can result in miscarriage and other pregnancy complications. Cramps after conception is considered as a normal sign of pregnancy, but it does not confirm pregnancy. So, follow a healthy lifestyle and have a safe and healthy pregnancy.
