Breast Milk : The Most Natural Food

Breast milk is the most natural food for a baby.  In the first 6 months of life milk contains everything a baby needs to grow and there is no need for it to have any other foods at all. However breast feeding isn’t easy and if you struggle with this how can you be motivated to carry on.

Apart from the obvious nutritional benefits that breast milk has for your baby, it is also the way that babies fight infections.  If the baby has picked up a bug of some kind such as a cold, they only have to touch your skin for your body to start creating antibodies ready to pass to your baby through your breast milk.  So babies who are fed this way can fight off diseases far more easily as their mother will have passed on antibodies when they feed to help.

Some people simply can’t breastfeed.  There are some women who it doesn’t work for however hard they try and whatever advice they seek.  Don’t despair if this happens to you. There is another way to ensure that you baby gets all the goodness and nutrition from your milk and the antibodies too without them having to breast feed. You can express the milk for them.  Now this is a lot of hard work and takes lots of dedication. You need to express at least as often as the baby will feed so after each feed they have you will need to express to get milk ready for their next feed.  This can be difficult when you have a new born baby to look after and if you have other children as well. However it is worth it if you think of the nutritional benefits.  You will need to use a hospital grade pump and double pump at least once through the night and 5 times in the day.  It is essential to pump between 12am and 6am as this is when your body produces most milk and it needs a strong signal that it needs to continue to do this.  However, once your supply is established it may be possible not to express at night, but you would have to experiment to find out.  It is useful to learn to hand express as well, so that if you are ever out and your baby needs a feed and you don’t have enough milk for them, you can pop into a baby feeding room and easily express a feed into a small cup and transfer it into a bottle for them.

So breast milk is by far the best nutrition for your baby, but if you can’t breast feed directly there is still a way of making sure your baby gets all the vitamins and minerals it needs to help it grow properly.  You will also be passing on your antibodies and helping with allergies and digestion by giving it breast milk, which is the food that is perfectly designed for your baby like no other powdered alternative could be.

The natural way to feed kids

Posted by EightNine on Oct 5th 2010

The organic movement has taken hold. People are no longer willing to put up with artificial foods that are said to harm the health of the children. Instead they are looking for the organic. Sometimes the movement for natural food appears to be some sort of cult that will not tolerate any difference. However in the main the public has accepted the supposition that the natural products are much better than the ones that are made from synthetic materials. Of course in the future such theories might be provided to be a bunch of baloney. At the moment the general trend is to treat the natural products as the best things for the children.

The parents are also taking up the ethical shopping habits that might appear to be pedantic to those that do not believe in the principles. For example there are now labels that will tell the consumer whether the farmer that grew that product is going to get a fair share of the revenue that comes out of the product. It is one of the things that are transforming the way that people think of food. In terms of Baby Nutrition and Baby Nutrition Care these things will continue to have an impact. The parents want the best for their children and they will try to ensure that they only buy the products that appear to be beneficial for the children that they are looking after.

Some parents have bought into a particular lifestyle that extends to the types of food that they consume. For example there are people that are committed vegans. Naturally they will expect that their offspring will follow suite in terms of the products that they are willing to consume. If that is not the case then they will make efforts to persuade them using the normal tools of good cooking and rule creation. Thus the parent that lives an eco friendly lifestyle will be interested to ensure that their babies are only consuming products that fit within that lifestyle.

The justification for natural and organic baby food

The people that use this type of process will have their own individual and community justifications for the food.  Perhaps one of the most chilling incidents in the history of food production is when a minister dared to feed his children a burger in the midst of the Mad Cow disease epidemic. The government has repeatedly reassured parents that they had nothing to worry about. They raised complaints but the government arrogantly refused to listen to them. Those that failed to comply with the government mandates were branded ignorant and selfish. They were refusing a perfectly good opportunity for cheap food. It is the same argument that is used with the synthetic foods or GM crops. In the end we learnt that there are still further examples of government malpractice and negligence.

Not only were they content to give people bad products, but they rubbed the salt in the wound by specifically recommending the products to the vulnerable members of the public. Unfortunately no one got really well punished for the Mad Cow disease debacle. However the parents learnt their lesson well. It was far better for them to concentrate on the natural foods. If a fruit was grown in the local garden and then given to the child in its natural state then there was limited chance for nasty chemicals to be added to the food. Therefore the natural foods movement began to take shape. In the end it was quite successful and there were many people that were converted after watching the publicity for a few days.

The government is somehow reluctant to come out and endorse natural foods as part of the Baby Nutrition and Baby Nutrition Care. The companies that make artificial food are only too willing to make a profit out of the ignorance of the general public. This will eventually mean that there is some sort of disconnect between the expectations of the different people and the outcomes that they have for their children. The movement has held and the government has a lot of catching up to do before they can even think about halting the movement in any shape or form.  This is something that seems to work well and the public is happy to take up the cause.

The costs of organic food

The natural foods movement does not mean that the person cannot suffer from the costing structures that make everything difficult. It is imperative that there is a system for checking the provision of different products so that they are in line with the general expectations that the consumers have. In due course it might turn out that these foods are only available to the wealthy or middle class people that can afford them. The people that might be able to afford the organic products are in the minority and therefore there is a danger that children will go without adequate provision for their nutritional needs. That is an outcome that is not acceptable from many perspectives.

The costs of organic food might be brought down with the increased coverage of the product. However there is a problem in as much as the coverage is largely static. There are no new customers that are being taken on board. The market is flooded with products that are either too expensive or too cumbersome to grow. Some people have gone down the route of home grown products. The problem with home grown products is that they require time. The busy lives that people generally lead mean that they do not have the time to invest in those home grown products. The future of organic farming will certainly have an impact on the way that people feed their children.

The process of accessing the foods is outside the affordability for many ordinary families. However that situation is by no means permanent. There might come a time when it is possible for the average member of the public to enjoy these products with the minimum of fuss. The guarantees are just not there but that does not mean that there is no room for improvement in the way that the products are handled at the end of the day.

The organic movement will have to deal with the cost issue if it is to contribute to Baby Nutrition and Baby Nutrition Care.  Parents being what they are will try to deal with the problem in the best way that they can but there is nothing to say that they will be successful in their quest. The cost issues will have less relevant when it becomes apparent that the organic foods have advantages. Normally this is the impetus that the parents need before they start flocking to the market in order to get the benefits for their children. It is also the beginning of the process that effectively ensures that they are in a position to deal with all the effects that come with the food.

A summary for parents

It is very important that the parents look at the provision of the organic food with some perspective. These are items that are generally believed to be very beneficial to the young children. However the parents still have the responsibility for the family budget. They cannot afford to spend everything that they have on something that might turn out to be just another fad. They have to be strategic in their thinking so that they can deal with all the issues that come with the product. It is also important that they retain control over the way that the product is handled throughout the process.

It takes time for the facts about the Baby Nutrition and Baby Nutrition Care to take root within the consciousness of the public. However the parents are normally very quick to find products that fit the specification. Some of them might include specific types of fruit and vegetables.  The baby might not be able to consume all the products but they will certainly have the possibility of having them pureed for easier consumption. If they are organic products then at least the parent will be aware that the possibility of dangerous chemicals is seriously reduced. That is a situation that they are likely to be comfortable with.

In terms of rationalizing the costs, the parents can do a mix and match approach. For example the diet might include fresh fruit and vegetables. At the same time they might also use the high quality baby food formulas. The ones that have less additives will be preferred but the parent has to also be able to compromise on some of their standards in order to get the right product. They cannot afford to be too rigid in the selection process or they might end up with nothing. The care of the baby has never been an easy task and the parent should be prepared to put in the investment that will ensure that that baby is well looked after.

There are many other ways like IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), but this can increase the chances of getting quadruplets, triplets or even quintuplets. This one reason that many of the couples opt for the natural ways to conceive twins. The following are the natural ways to get pregnant with twins.

Plan for Twins – The Natural Way

Family History
A family history of twin pregnancy plays a great role in getting pregnant with twins. If you have any relatives from your father’s or mother’s side giving birth to twins then your chances are likely to increase. This can occur because you may share some part of the genes that is vital for the release of eggs during ovulation at the same time. You can be one of the person lucky to get this twin gene from your parents.

Gain Weight
This can surprise you but the fact is that weight gain is very much important to get pregnant the natural way and have twins. It is stated that taller women with a Basal Metabolic Rate of 30 or more is likely to give birth to twins. These are found to work in the case of fraternal twins. So, try not to shed lots of weight, instead gain some extra weight as this can increase the chances of twin.

Yams and cassava
Yams and cassava helps thinner and shorter women to get pregnant with twins. According to the National Organization of Mothers of Twins, these roots if included in the daily diet helps to conceive twins. These root vegetables increases the progesterone levels in the body. This hormone stimulates hyper-ovulation and so, increases the chances of having fraternal twins. Other foods that are good to increase twin conceiving chances are whole grains, walnuts, tofu and wheat germ

Full fat dairy products
The fat in the dairy products also helps in the production of progesterone as these have cholesterol in them which increases hyper-ovulation which increases the chance of two eggs fertilizing at the same time.

Big family
The more number of children you have or the more number of times you get pregnant, can increase the chances of conceiving twins. But make sure that you have finances, resources, strength and time to take good care of all the children you give birth.

Older women
This another natural way, because women who are over the age of 45 have 17% of chances of multiple pregnancy. But one thing that everybody fears of at this age is infertility. The chances of conceiving twins are greater because the body produces Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)which directs the maturation of the egg and due to extra FSH, it makes the ovary to release two eggs.

Note: These are some simple tips to conceive twins, but the best thing is to consult your doctor who can help you to have a multiple pregnancy. Just cross your fingers and hope that your wish of having twins comes true. There is no guarantee that any of the above natural ways can get you pregnant with twins. But, you can try or combine one or more of these methods to increase your chances and just hope for the best.

The Joy of Natural Childbirth

Natural Childbirth. After my first contraction, it took me only 15 minutes to deliver my baby. I would say that constitutes a record for an older woman like me! I am someone who generally does not tolerate any pain at all. I would attribute my choice of a natural delivery to my mothering instinct as well as to inspiration from a friend. My friend told me that natural delivery is best for both the infant and the mother since the baby will try his very best to leave the uterus. This helps the infant vent the amniotic fluid from his lungs. It also serves as a mini training for the baby’s body and mind. Meanwhile, the mother will recover sooner than if she had undergone a Cesarean surgery. I hope the tips I share below will be of help to all new mums:
